In Lent 2009 the Society hosted a special tournament to celebrate the 800th Anniversary of the founding of the University of Cambridge, and sponsored by the University's 800th Anniversary fund. A knockout tournament was held between University departments in the style of University Challenge, but with questions centred around the University, its history, research and famous alumni. The tournament ended in style with a packed finals evening in the Union Society, compered by Clive Anderson.
The winning DPMMS team went on to play a team of alumni (Daisy Goodwin, Stephen Fry, Simon Hoggart, Edward Stourton) in a match at the staff Garden Party in the Botanic Gardens. Organised by the Quiz Society, questions were read by Alexander Armstrong with Ben Miller as scorer. The DPMMS team again emerged victorious.
If you missed the semi-finals or final you can listen to recordings of them by right-clicking on the titles below and selecting "Save Link As". Unfortunately the unexpectedly high number of spectators means that the audience applause somewhat overloads the microphones creating an annoying crackling on the recordings.
